Energise with Ayurveda!

Energise with Ayurveda!

We all have those days when there's nothing we would rather do than curl up in your comfiest pyjamas and have a nice long nap, no matter what time of day it is. Whether you're feeling tired from a stressful day of meeting deadlines at work, or running after the kids all day, sometimes that tired feeling is simply unavoidable. But you can't let those negative feelings win!

Your precious day should be yours to conquer and make the most of, not spent yawning and rubbing those tired red eyes. The answer to those sleepy woes is simple, you just need more energy! Although sometimes this may be easier said than done, especially if it feels that you're constantly burning the candle at both ends.

According to Ayurveda, fatigue and tiredness is caused by the misuse of the body and mind. Once again Ayurveda comes to the rescue with those special tips and tricks that can help you make the very most of your day!

1. Wake Up Early

Sometimes more sleep isn't necessarily the answer to those sluggish feelings, instead sleeping in can have the opposite effect. Ayurveda experts recommend that waking up early is the perfect way to get your energy flowing.

To be more precise waking up early actually means waking up at least twenty minutes before sunrise to take advantage of the vast amounts of energy flowing through the air.

This is especially beneficial to those with vata as your dominant dosha as it is strongly related to the concept of movement.

 2. Build Up Your Oja

Oja is a substance found within the body that is responsible for your energy. While it has not been fully embraced by Western medicine, many believe that it's closely related to the hormone oxytocin.

In Ayurveda, the best way to pay back your energy debt is to build up your oja. There are many different ways to do this including eating oja building foods such as ghee, honey, almonds and coconut.

Our personal favourite way to build up your oja is caring for others! Once you project positive energy to others, you'll be rewarded with a natural boost of your own.

3. Drink Plenty of Water

This one is a no brainer! To carry out energy throughout your body, water is an absolute must!

You should be drinking at least six glasses a day to keep your body functioning at optimal level. A great tip is to sip on some warm water throughout the day infused with some freshly squeezed lime.

4. Invest in a Morning Routine

If you've been following our blog, you'll know by now that one of our most reliable and trusted Ayurveda tips is to get yourself in a great morning routine that works for you!

Whether your favourite morning ritual is starting with some yoga or taking a few peaceful moments for meditation, the best thing you can do is stick with it!

Adapting to a sound morning routine can help build up your oja and leave you feeling restful and content. You can check out our tips for creating the perfect morning routine here.

5. Avoid Energy Draining Foods

We've already discussed some foods that can help build up your energy, it's time to think about the ones you should be avoiding. Any canned, fast, or leftover foods should be strictly avoided. Once you cut them out, you'll be able to notice that sluggish feeling will follow.

So next time you feel the need for an energy boost, put down the coffee or those sugary energy drinks! Instead, take a look at the bigger picture! You'll find that with just a few little tweaks to your usual routine, your energy levels will rise and you'll be ready to make the day yours for the taking!
