Kefir Berry Smoothie Recipe | Gut-Friendly & Nourishing

Kefir Berry Smoothie Recipe | Gut-Friendly & Nourishing

Creamy, refreshing and packed with berry goodness, this Kefir Berry Smoothie is an easy way to add fermented foods, fibre and wholefood ingredients to your day.

Kefir gives it a deliciously creamy, slightly tangy base, while berries and banana bring natural sweetness. Add chia seeds and you’ve got a simple smoothie that works beautifully for breakfast, an afternoon pick-me-up or whenever you need something nourishing in minutes.

Kefir Berry Smoothie

Prep time: 5 minutes
Serves: 1 large or 2 small

Ingredients

  • 1 cup plain kefir
  • 1 cup frozen mixed berries
  • ½ frozen banana
  • 1 tablespoon chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoon almond or peanut butter
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ cup milk of choice, plus extra as needed
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey or maple syrup, optional

Method

  1. Add the kefir, frozen berries, banana, chia seeds, nut butter, vanilla and cinnamon to a high-speed blender.
  2. Add the milk and blend until thick, creamy and completely smooth.
  3. If you prefer a thinner smoothie, add another splash of milk and blend again.
  4. Taste and add a little honey or maple syrup if you'd like some extra sweetness.
  5. Pour into a glass and enjoy straight away.

Make it your own

Want to give it a little extra? Add a handful of spinach for some greens, a scoop of your favourite protein powder for additional protein, or a spoonful of oats to make it even more substantial.

You can also swap the mixed berries for blueberries, raspberries or strawberries depending on what you have in the freezer.

Why we love it

Kefir is a fermented milk drink containing live cultures, making it an easy way to introduce fermented foods into your diet. Berries bring fibre, vitamins and naturally occurring antioxidants, while chia seeds add extra fibre and healthy fats.

Combined with banana and nut butter, you get a creamy, satisfying smoothie made with simple ingredients that tastes every bit as good as it looks.
