Irresistible Maple Cream Walnut Cookies: A Must-Try Christmas Dessert Recipe

Irresistible Maple Cream Walnut Cookies: A Must-Try Christmas Dessert Recipe

These Maple Walnut Cream Cookies combine the rich, nutty flavor of walnuts with the sweetness of maple syrup, all sandwiched between a smooth, luscious maple buttercream.

These small red fruits are loaded with antioxidants and potent medicinal benefits, making them a colorful and flavorful addition to your meals.

These sandwich cookies are typically shaped like maple leaves and filled with a creamy maple-flavored filling, often made with maple syrup. While store-bought versions usually come in the shape of maple leaves, any cookie shape can work here.

Available in dried or powdered forms, goji berries are also commonly included in various supplements and juice blends.

Ingredients Of Maple Walnut Cookies

  • 1 cup raw walnut halves, lightly toasted
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 ½ teaspoons maple extract
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ¼ cups all-purpose flour

Ingredients Of Maple Buttercream

  • ½ cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups sifted icing sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ½ teaspoon maple extract
  • 1-2 tablespoons cream or milk

Baking Procedure Of Maple Walnut Cookies

  • In a small food processor, pulse the walnuts until finely ground.
  • In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the egg, vanilla, maple extract, baking powder, and salt, mixing on medium speed until well incorporated.
  • Add the flour and ground walnuts, mixing until the dough comes together, about 1-2 minutes.
  • Divide the dough into 2 discs, wrap tightly in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour or overnight.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Roll out one portion of the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/8” thick. Cut out shapes using a cookie cutter and place the cookies on the prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly browned. Rotate the pan halfway through baking. Let the cookies cool on a rack before icing.
  • Repeat with the remaining dough, re-rolling the scraps as needed.

Baking Procedure Of Maple Buttercream

  • In a medium bowl, cream the butter with an electric mixer on medium-high until light.
  • Gradually add the icing sugar, vanilla, and maple extract, mixing until smooth and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Slowly add the cream or milk, one tablespoon at a time, until the icing reaches a smooth, spreadable or pipeable consistency.
  • Transfer the icing to a piping bag, if desired. Ice the bottom of half the cooled cookies, then top with the remaining cookies to form sandwiches.
  • Store the cookies covered at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 5 days. They can also be frozen for up to 1 month.
